I Don't Know Any More Than You Do

And I never want to make anyone else feel like I'm claiming to.

As mamas, we are blessed (and cursed, maybe) with this thing called Mother's Intuition. For a good while in my first bit of motherhood, I buried mine and looked to the professionals in every area for every little thing. And I got lost.

I am not saying medical professionals are silly. I am saying we are oversaturated with research and opinions and prescriptions and bandaids. We are still expected to keep our children alive and healthy, but at the same time we are pushed out.

Mama, how many times have you been in a conversation with a well-meaning friend or family member and heard the question,

"What does his doctor say about that?"

I only have two young children, but I couldn't even begin to count it for me.

Now, how many times have you heard,

"How do you feel about that, Mom?"

or

"What does your gut tell you?"

I realize I have suddenly been bombarding my audience with content--new posts here and live Facebook videos and a completely new community page. But none of that is to say I know you or your child or how you should handle anything any better than you do.

It's actually the total opposite.

A good friend made a comment on my video about forced sharing this week, and it stuck with me.

"It just feels wrong."

Yes! That's it! That's all of it!

You feel it. You know yourself and feel your needs. You know your child and feel her needs. I'm just here to encourage you to allow yourself to feel them.

And then to say to yourself, "I hear you, and you are right."

And maybe even a little something like,

"You are kicking ass, Mama."

That's all I'm trying to say. But the Good Lord made me a bit wordy, so I may need to say it a thousand different ways. I know it took a while for me to hear it, so I want to give other mothers that opportunity, too.

So, there will be more coming. But I don't know any more than you do.

We are all in this together.
