First Hike

Daniel spent the long weekend in Nashville for a wedding, and by Sunday Edie was missing him pretty terribly. I don't know how many times she asked me, "Dada, home soon?" and ran to the back door over the course of the four days. Broke my mama heart. So on Sunday when she fell asleep in the car on our way home from the grocery store, I thought I'd do something spontaneous to try to get her mind off of missing her daddy. Plus, I didn't feel like driving around for up to two hours, and I've learned the hard way that attempting to take her out of her carseat not only wakes her up, but ruins her nap completely and often times messes up bedtime, too. So I drove us about 45 minutes out of town to Devil's Den, and she woke up a little confused but mostly ready to explore the little lake and woods. She hiked about two miles on her own before asking me to carry her, and I ended up getting an awesome unexpected arm and back workout out of the trip :)

P.S. Here's a little outtake from that morning at home. Don't take off a girl's favorite blue shoes, even if they do not at all go with her outfit and you're her photographer mom who just wants to take a pretty photo in the morning light. Ha, oops.
