Toddler Made (Kind of) May Day Baskets

Making May Day baskets and riding around town in my mom's van to deliver them to friends was probably my favorite tradition growing up.  I don't really ever hear anyone talk about them anymore, but when Edie is a little older I plan on taking her to pick out fresh flowers and a few little goodies for her buddies and spending any afternoon arranging everything just right alongside my girl. If we were to try that today she would just tear the flowers to shreds, so I wanted to come up with an alternative for the two of us to make together. I considered making a big basket out of felt and pinning it to the wall (like our felt Christmas tree) and letting her stick felt flowers on it. I still might try to pull something like that together. I also kind of wanted something I could frame and display as spring decor (I'm all about little one's artwork hanging all over the house!). So I grabbed construction paper, scissors, and a glue stick, and this is what we came up with :) I obviously cut the pieces out myself and glued on the basket before dabbing a little glue on the flowers and letting her stick them on. And if I'm being totallly honest, several flowers were destroyed in the process. Ha. But that's part of the fun, right?

Can you believe Sunday is the first of May? This year is flying by!

Do you have any fun family traditions for spring or summer?
